Read this before using the SCI-3100INT or SCI-3100EXT

GPS Position Locking is simply how long it takes for the GPS unit to automatically calculate its location after it is powered up. You will notice this when you are reviewing the GPS recorded data with the software. Sometimes the track will not start from the same location it stopped. You will see small gaps in the data. The gaps are there because of the time it takes for GPS Position Locking. The more metal you have around or above the 3100-INT or the GPS antenna of the 3100-EXT, the longer it will take for GPS Position Locking. Below is a table of how effective the unit will be, taking into consideration the placement of the GPS Unit.

Cold start GPS Position Locking may require a minimum of 2 minutes and warm start (sleep mode) GPS Position Locking may require minimum of 15 seconds depending on antenna placement and other land features or obstacles such as tunnels, parking garages, steel buildings, etc.

1. Highly recommend these locations for GPS antenna placement. Best overall performance and superior signal reception for optimum accuracy.
   
2. Signal reception will not be as accurate or favorable. This location will not provide the accuracy that location 1 will.
   
3. Recommended only when other locations or options do not exist.
