1. ABOUT
THE SkyTRX SCI-3100EXT WATER RESISTANCE – Although
we designed this unit to be quite water-resistant, please do not
take this for granted. At all times, try to place the unit in a location
that will not experience splashing water or an area that will not
be submerged in water.
2. KNOW
HOW GPS WORKS. The
SkyTRX SCI-3100EXT uses GPS to find its location. In order to lock
onto the location, the GPS antenna must have a direct line of sight
to 3 locations in the sky and these locations are changing constantly
throughout the day. Make sure the antenna is attached and that no
metal completely blocking this upward line of sight. GPS signals
will go through plastic, glass, rubber, fiberglass, cloth material,
or anything else not made of metal. The more metal obstructions that
are above and around the GPS unit, the longer it will take to lock
onto the location. Make sure you choose a good location to place
the antenna for optimum results.
VERY IMPORTANT: The
bottom of the GPS antenna must be magnetically attached to metal
for it to receive the GPS signals properly.
3. TAKE
A TEST DRIVE.
Take the unit for a test run with the GPS antenna on your vehicle’s
roof or hood (Always attach the magnet mount GPS antenna to metal).
Whenever you flip the power switch on, it is considered a cold start.
It can take 2 minutes or more for a cold start. If you leave the
unit on, there will not be another cold start until you replace the
batteries. SO LEAVE THE UNIT ON. After 3 minutes of inactivity, the
unit will go into a very low power mode which will not drain the
batteries.
4.
For best results, use lithium AA batteries. Lithium AA batteries
last 3 times longer than regular AA batteries. If you pick up the
unit and the power light is off, then it is time to replace the batteries.
5.
Install the software on your computer and choose the Typical Installation.
This will install all of the maps on your computer. An icon will
appear on your desktop called PastTrack. (Other icons may be installed
which you can ignore. Run the PastTrack program.
6.
Plug in the download cable from the SkyTRX SCI-3100EXT to an available
USB port on your computer. Make sure the cable is snuggly
secured and plugged in all the way to the unit and
the unit is powered on. Click on the button labeled with the number ‘ 3 ’.
Click on the FIND button so the software can find the unit. Click
download, type a name for the saved data and follow the on screen
instructions.
7.
After the data is downloaded a map will come up with the track of
the vehicle. You can hit the “Play” button and watch
the car move along the path. Refer to the manual for detailed software
functions.
